Gran Fondo is the name that is given to open long-distance cycling races in which amateur cyclists participate. These races, whose name originates from “Gare di Fondo”, that is the term used for “distance races”, are generally organized with different distances and difficulties. However, the same racetrack is being used by all ages and all participant levels.
Races of gradual distances are called “Gran Fondo”, “Mezzo Fondo” and “Fondo”. “Gran Fondo”, which means “Big Ride” is the term used for the longest distance racetrack among them. For decades, Gran Fondo cycling races have been highly popular around Europe. They recently spread to other continents and attracted great attention.
Gran Fondo races bring together people for a sportive competition. Therefore, the main attractive features of this important event are its cultural and social responsibility dimensions. The most well-known names are undoubtedly the Prosecco Cycling Classic, Novi Colli and Felice Gimondi.
